“Donna has recently retired from WVHC; however, in her role as Administrative Assistant to the Director, Donna worked alongside the Tri-Community Health & Wellness Foundation, which was also previously named the Stony Plain Hospital Foundation, now known as the WestView Health Foundation for 30 years. Donna worked tirelessly to help with Golf Tournaments, the Festival of Trees, and many other events hosted by the Foundation to help ensure each event was a success.”

Mostly though, Irene is the most accommodating worker for our patients. She will make multiple trips back and forth to the kitchen to ensure our patients are happy with their meals. She takes time to ask how they are, and many have left compliments about how caring she is. She can also be a bit silly and will often have them laughing or smiling. She has an infectious giggle, sometimes roaring into laughter. She is always willing and able to lend a hand inside and outside of her own department. She has a very natural ability and willingness to mentor/coach others within her department so that any task required can be completed. She is constantly looking for ways to keep labels and carts up-to-date and also views any task as to how she/we can possibly improve our outcomes for everyone at the hospital. Jed makes anyone and everyone at the site feel as though they are part of the site's “family”.

    Day Surgery Unit: Crystal Tewes

“Crystal Tewes is a relatively new employee to WestView, having started in 2021; she moved into the role of supply coordinator in 2023. Having no previous experience with the specialized equipment needed in a surgical area, she very quickly learned the role and provided stability to the bustling Day Surgery/Operating Room at WestView. Having the supplies and equipment on hand and in good condition allows the department to provide quality timely care to the patients seen at WestView. She works collaboratively with her coworkers and knows when to share information or ask questions to keep things working smoothly. Crystal's hard work and dedication provide stability and trust within the entire OR team.”

He was there when a small plane crashed into the hospital much to the surprise of staff at the time as well as through the tornado that swept through Edmonton on what we now know as Black Friday. The next 26 years of his career brought him closer to home and his beloved family when he began work at the hospital in Stony Plain, now the WestView Health Centre. His years in medicine have been spent travelling on important mission trips with World Medical, Samaritan’s Purse and LIGA Flying Doctors of Mercy, Dr. Nixon visited countries such as Kenya, Sierra Leone, the Philippians, Cambodia, North Vietnam, Ecuador, twice to Haiti and three trips to Mexico. He is genuine and dedicated, caring, and loved by all who know him, even bringing a horse in to visit the long-term care patients to brighten their day. A family man, farmer, ER doctor and missionary, Dr. Nixon has accomplished a rare balance of all that he loves.”
